This week Starshine had conferences at her school, and M&M Dad and I are very proud.
She is the best reader in her class (no surprise there). In fact, in her last test she read 187 words per minute! M&M Dad thought we should test him, because he's not convinced he reads that fast :). She also wrote a very long, detailed journal entry about the fabulous time she had at the waterpark hotel!
But, for all of the joy Starshine finds in reading, she has always been frustrated by math. We figure it is because it doesn't come to her super easy like reading does. Well, this last unit we did more extra work at home and her teacher wrote " [Starshine] did a great job on the concepts we've worked on in Unit 5. Way to go [Starshine]!" We are super proud of how hard she has been working on math.
I love math!!!!!!
Other than that, she is a super happy, well-adjusted 1st grader with lots of friends, who loves to help the teacher.
Man we have great kids!

Starshine is a girl after my own heart. Reading and writing? Great. Math? Not so great.
Isn't it so rewarding to see them excel in things and overcome things that challenge them? What a great conference. Have a good weekend!
Starshine - you have definitely earned a high 5! We are very proud of you and your success in reading and now math. Keep up the great work!
Remember when you started to read you had to work at it. Look how that has paid off. Math seems to be following the same path. You cannot loose if you give it your best effort.
